UPDATE: Sarnia police arrest suspect in downtown stabbing

Sarnia police say there was a stabbing on Monday afternoon, near the downtown public library on Christina Street.

Police allege two men were involved in a verbal dispute.

During the altercation police said one man brandished a large knife, swung it at the other man, causing a non-life-threatening slash wound to the victim's arm.

Officers quickly located the accused and arrested him within blocks of the library.

A 36-year-old man is charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breach of recognizance and four counts of failing to comply with probation.

Police said the victim was treated by Lambton EMS at the scene and declined being taken to the hospital.

Both the victim and the accused were known to each other.

The Sarnia Police Service's Criminal Investigations Division has taken over the investigation.
