Machete wielding man arrested

A scary situation at Canatara Park Tuesday ended with a high risk traffic stop by Sarnia police.

Officers responded to the popular park for reports of a man brandishing a machete threatening to kill someone.

Police said the suspect was involved in a verbal altercation with two other individuals and then all three parted ways.

It's alleged the accused returned to the park in his vehicle and drove in close proximity to the other two people, brandishing a machete out of his vehicle window and threatening them before taking off.

Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and a high risk vehicle stop was conducted on Wellington Street.

A 21-year-old Sarnia man was taken into custody without incident.

The accused is charged with uttering threats to cause death, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon.

He was released from bail court on a recognizance of bail with conditions.

Police said all three parties involved are known to each other and have a history of disagreements.
