Man arrested after woman claimed to be 'pushed from moving car'

Sarnia police have arrested a man accused of pushing a woman out of a moving car last month.

Officers recognized the 62-year-old while at the scene of an unrelated matter on Tuesday, July 30 just after 7 a.m.

Police said Jeffrey Barry was arrested and taken to Sarnia Police Headquarters where he was held for bail on charges of assault, assault causing bodily harm, dangerous driving, and failure to stop after an accident.

Sarnia police were called to what was described as a hit-and-run in the area of Indian Road and Devine Street on June 16 just after 4 p.m.

When officers arrived, a 58-year-old woman was being treated by paramedics and said she had been in a vehicle with a male driver known to her as "Jeff."

She claimed they got into an argument and he pushed her out of the vehicle while it was travelling at about 50 kilometres per hour.

Police said the woman suffered a dislocated knee and scratches.

She was treated at hospital and later released.
