A 33-year-old Sarnia woman is accused of assaulting another person after she was allegedly caught rummaging through a parked vehicle near Trudeau Drive and Confederation Street.
Sarnia police said the incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31.
The vehicle's owner reportedly confronted the suspect and demanded that items missing from the vehicle be returned.
It's alleged the suspect returned some of the items but then struck the victim in the chest before leaving the area.
Officers later found the suspect around Murphy Road and Wellington Street at 8 p.m.
Police said an investigation linked the suspect to a separate theft in which a credit card was reported stolen. The card has been recovered but police said it was used at a retailer.
At the time of the arrest, police said the accused was under a probation order and recognizance of bail for similar offences.
She was charged with assault, theft under $5,000, fraudulent use of a credit card, two counts of possession of stolen property, and failure to comply with a probation order.
