Petrolia mayor welcomes start of construction on Mainstreet Credit Union

Petrolia's mayor is thrilled that ground has officially been broken on Mainstreet Credit Union's new branch in the heart of downtown.

They put the shovels into the ground recently to start work on the building, located on a long-vacant piece of land at 4128 Petrolia Line.

That's right between the CIBC bank and the Wing House restaurant.

Mayor Brad Loosley is excited to see the development take shape.

"I thank them and give them a warm welcome to our thriving community," said Loosley. "I'm just tickled that we have a new development like that, building right in our downtown. Our business community is very active in Petrolia, working together to promote dining, shopping, visiting and more. We've got a great, lengthy list of community partners."

Loosley said being an 'in-fill' development has its benefits.

"When you do in-filling, all the services are there," he said. "You don't have to run any services in or out, they just have to connect up to everything that's already there."

The building is being constructed by London-based Southside Construction.

In a news release, Mainstreet Credit Union President and CEO Chris Inniss said the new branch will offer a wide range of personal, business and investment solutions to serve the growing population of Petrolia and the surrounding areas.

He said Mainstreet’s advice-focused approach will help members and the public to achieve their financial goals. "Securing a fantastic location in Petrolia is a significant milestone for us," said Inniss. "This new branch embodies our commitment to the residents here and in neighbouring areas, allowing us to be better equipped to serve members in the long term. We are eager to become an integral part of the vibrant downtown community and support its ongoing growth and prosperity."

The new branch is scheduled to open in the spring of 2025, at which point the team at the Brigden branch will be moved to the upgraded location.

While construction is underway, Mainstreet has established a temporary location at 4137 Petrolia Line, inside the Exit Realty building.

Members can visit this temporary location for account opening, non-cash transactions and to meet with advisors from Tuesday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
