City building activity picking up, major permits issued

Sarnia's building permit totals through seven months of the year have topped $100 million.

There were 64 building permits issued at Sarnia City Hall in July with a total estimated construction value over $74.4 million, bringing the year-to-date total to over $112.7 million.

The big boost was thanks to a $35 million permit issued to Steeves and Rozema for redevelopment of the Michigan Avenue site currently occupied by Trillium Villa with a new three-storey long-term care facility.

A $16.4 million permit was also issued to the Lambton Kent District School Board for extensive renovations at Rosedale Public School on Indian Road, including an upgrade of the HVAC and plumbing systems, roof upgrades and parking improvements.

Interior renovations are planned at the Starbucks on London Road. A $770,000 permit was issued for the work last month.

Permits for four single family homes were issued in July, bringing the year-to-date total to 14.
