Grand Ole Power Days return to Florence

The Florence and District Community Centre will be filled with antique tractors for the 34th annual Grand Ole Power Days.

Sydenham Antique Club President Kelly Humphrey said there will be a number of events over the three days.

"There will be antique displays of farm machinery, we will do a new and used spot, for example maybe an old thrashing machine and a brand new combine just so people can see the difference," he said.

Humphrey explained how the event started.

"It was a bunch of retired farmers that still like the old ways and they had a bunch of antique tractors and farm machinery and they started the show right after the Florence fair had folded," he said.

This year, there will be an antique tractor pull on Sunday.

Humphrey said it's usually well attended.

"It's more of an older crowd but we do get some of the young ones in, who say their grandpa used to farm like that and they want to see about it," he said.

The event kicks off on Friday, August 23 at 7 p.m. with music and a donated dessert auction.

Gates open at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Humphrey said rough camping will be available for $20 a night.

It is a cash only event and admission is $5 on Friday and $10 on Saturday and Sunday. Children 12 and under are free.
