Organizers and volunteers are still recuperating from long work days after Petrolia hosted its first-ever Hard Oil Music Festival last week.
The three-day outdoor concert series was held from August 15 to August 17 with headliners such as Josh Ross, Tom Cochrane, and The Sam Roberts Band.
Town of Petrolia Director of Marketing, Arts and Communication Laurissa Ellsworth said just over 5,000 people attended the concert series over the course of three days.
"It was nice to see Petrolia so full of people," she said.
Exact totals for each night are unknown at this point, however, none of the shows were sold out.
Ellsworth said overall, the event went well, despite the wet weather conditions. Gates opened later than expected on August 17 and the show was delayed due to heavy rainfall.
"So we did what we would consider a partial evacuation, moving everyone to the back of the field away from the electrical and the stage," she said. "It delayed the show by about 45 minutes but then we managed to put the rest of the artists on stage as expected and they did just end up playing a bit later."
The concert series was organized to celebrate Petrolia's 150th anniversary. Ellsworth said the idea was to have it as a one-time event and committee members have not discussed whether a similar event should occur in the future.
"It does take a literal army of volunteers to pull it off and I think it's one of those post-event meeting conversations to have but at this moment we haven't discussed it," she said.
Ellsworth said they will likely meet in early September.
The amount of revenue brought in from the event also won't be known until the fall.
In total, about 500 volunteers were involved with the festival.
"We set up for a week from [August 12] to the event day and through the events. We tore down on [August 18 and 19]," she said. "It's so amazing. We put the question out and the town just jumped up and met the opportunity with big smiles on their faces and gloves on their hands, ready to work. It was nice."
The Petrolia 150 planning committee has a list of other events planned for the remainder of the year, which can be found at petrolia150.com.
