Wanted York robbery suspect arrested at Rainbow Park

A 23-year-old York man, wanted on robbery charges in the GTA, has been found at Rainbow Park in Sarnia.

The Sarnia Police Emergency Response and K9 teams initially went to the downtown park at around 3:20 p.m. Thursday to try and find a different wanted man, but were unsuccessful.

While they were there, police found the robbery suspect slumped over a chair, initially unresponsive, and in apparent medical distress.

Police said an ambulance was called, the man was assessed by paramedics, and became more responsive.

It's alleged the suspect, who gave police a fake name, had a container of mace, a small quantity of crystal methamphetamine and $420 in counterfeit Canadian currency.

He also had a bald mask with long hair, and an airsoft gun.

Police said identical counterfeit money was used to defraud a local business on August 14.

The suspect was later identified, and was held for bail.

He's facing the following charges:

· Possession of a Prohibited Device

· Possession of Counterfeit Currency

· Possession of Schedule I Substance

· Breach of a Prohibition Order X 2

· Obstruct Police

Sarnia Police are seeking victims or anyone with more details about the mask or airsoft gun.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service at (519)-344-8861 or Sarnia-Lambton Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
