SIU investigates crash involving Sarnia police cruiser

A crash between a Sarnia police cruiser and another vehicle, driven by an elderly woman, is being probed by the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

At around 3:10 p.m. on Monday, August 26, an officer was travelling northbound on Indian Road en route to an emergency call.

The SIU said the cruiser collided with a vehicle heading eastbound on Exmouth Street.

The 80-year-old woman driving the other vehicle was transported to hospital for treatment of a serious injury.

Two investigators, one forensic investigator and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online by clicking here.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
