Lambton OPP prepared for busy long weekend in Grand Bend

The Labour Day long weekend, or unofficial end to summer, can be one of the busiest long weekends in Grand Bend.

In the past, a typical long weekend would see about 10,000 visitors to the Lake Huron resort community.

Lambton OPP Cst.Jeanine Robertson said if you plan on making a trip to Grand Bend over the next couple of days, be sure to be responsible.

"Lambton County is always prepared for the influx of tourists in Grand Bend and I don't believe this weekend will be any different than any other weekend we've had this summer," said Robertson. "We've had great weather for most of the summer during the weekends and it's been very busy. Our officers will continue to focus on safety, and that's ensuring everybody has a safe and enjoyable weekend."

Cst. Robertson said on the roads, officers will be focused on the 'big four', speeding, distracting driving, improper seat belt use and impaired driving.

"So Lambton County OPP will be focusing on road safety, we are committed to traffic safety and will be doing that by targeting the big four," she said. "We would like to remind all drivers just to remain focused and follow the rules of the road. We'll be seeing increased traffic on our roadways, and we all need to remember that road safety is a shared responsibility and if everybody does their part, this will keep our roads safer for everyone to use."

Provincial police said by mid August, 227 people died on OPP-patrolled roads this year, including 21 pedestrians and six cyclists.

Boaters can also expect to see an increased police presence on area waterways, ensuring boaters are in compliance with vessel regulations.
