Sting sign two players ahead of OHL preseason

The Sarnia Sting continue to fill out their roster ahead of the upcoming Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season.

On Thursday, the club announced the signings of 16-year-old Ryan Chamberlain and 19-year-old JJ Franceschetti to OHL Scholarship and Development Agreements.

Chamberlain, a Peterborough native, was selected by the Sting in the 5th round of the 2024 draft. The speedy forward had 12 goals and 11 assists in 55 games last season with the Toronto Marlboros U16 AAA team.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca is thrilled.

“Ryan is a player that we believe might have been the best skater in the ‘08 draft class, this skill set is something we value," said Seca. "He had a great summer and left a positive impression on the scouts and coaches this past week. With that he’s earned a position with the club this season. We welcome the Chamberlain family to Sarnia."

Franceschetti is a Toronto native who spent the 2023-24 season with the Toronto Patriots of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).

The competitive forward tallied 20 points in 35 games played with four goals and 16 assists.

Seca said he's a player that caught the eye of the Sting's staff over the last year.

"He’s a competitive player who is comfortable with his physical play. We believe his character, compete level and leadership will help support the younger players. We welcome the Franceschetti family to Sarnia," said Seca.

The Sting will play five preseason games, including on Friday, September 6 in Windsor and at home to Flint on Saturday, September 7.

The regular season kicks off Friday, September 27 against the Spitfires at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
