Aamjiwnaang hosts nomination meeting ahead of October election

Aamjiwnaang residents wishing to run for band council are invited to a nomination meeting Friday, September 6.

It's being held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Maawn Doosh Gumig Community Centre on Virgil Ave.

There are nine councillor seats and one chief position available.

A notice from the First Nation said any voter may nominate candidates by using a mail-in nomination form.

"All voters may nominate candidates for both chief and councillor positions," it read. "You can either deliver or mail-in a written nomination and a completed, signed and witnessed voted declaration form to the electoral officer before the time set for the nomination meeting. You may also nominate candidates orally at the nomination meeting."

Mailed nominations that aren't received by the electoral officer before the time set for the nomination meeting are void.

Aamjiwnaang's election is taking place Friday, October 18 at the community centre.

Voters may also cast their ballots via mail.
