Finishing details are being completed on a pair of apartment buildings at the former Sarnia General Hospital site.
Skyline Living Vice President BJ Santavy said work is going well on the four storey apartment buildings off Mitton Street.
"There's 118 units in total with the two apartment buildings, there will be 59 units in each building and it's going to be a mix of one and two bedrooms, ranging from 710 to 985 square feet," said Santavy.
One of the residential buildings, and a separate amenity building, are expected to be complete by the end of this year and construction of the other residential building will wrap up next spring.
"Our amenity space is designed to be like the heart of the home. So, within the amenity space, we've got a fully equipped gym, a social lounge with a fireplace and billiards table, we have a hosting kitchen and dining area, and we arrange events, cooking or wine tasting, in this space."
Rent at the Aura Apartments will start at $1,695 per month.
"They're not considered affordable units by CMHC [Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation] standards. There's a lot of amenities here, so this is going to be more of a higher end luxury building, so the prices will be according to what the quality is," Santavy said.
She said the site also has an outdoor patio with a fire pit, bike racks and storage lockers.
Santavy thinks the buildings will be a beautiful addition to the neighbourhood once complete.
"I know the neighbours have been extremely patient throughout the construction and I know it's noisy and can be a little bit dusty from time to time, but I think everybody in the neighbourhood is going to be thrilled when they see this," she said.
Pre-leasing is underway.
Open houses are planned from October 3 to October 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
