Friends of the St. Clair River is encouraging people to get out into the community with its photo contest.
Amateur digital photographers are invited to take photos of the St. Clair River over the next two months.
There are three categories, Nature and Wildlife, Youth (under 18) and Digital Perspectives.
Friends of the St. Clair River Vice Chair Ken Hall said the idea is to capture some of the improvements that have been made along the river.
"Basically from the mouth of the river all the way down to Lake St. Clair," he said. "The area we're talking about is the area that was studied by the remedial action plan."
Hall said the remedial action plan has been in place for nearly four decades and progress is being made.
"We are addressing the pollution concerns that impacted the river historically. Every year things are getting better and we're hoping that people go out, enjoy the water, enjoy the river and capture in photography some of those improvements that are being made," he said.
This is the fourth year Friends of the St. Clair River has hosted the contest.
Hall said the response from the community has been great.
"We've received hundreds and hundreds of pictures. Those pictures have found their way into all kinds of publications," he said.
The winning photos will win cash prizes totaling $3,000 and each photographer can submit up to three photos.
The contest deadline is November 1, and submissions can be sent to rapcoordinator@scrca.on.ca.
Winners will be announced by November 15.
