'I screamed with delight,' Sarnia woman recounts when claiming lottery win

A Sarnia woman is planning to pay off her new car and travel after winning the lottery last month.

Christine Doyle won a LOTTO MAX second prize of just over $224,000 in the October 4, 2024 draw.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) said Doyle, who works in sales, has been a regular lottery player for decades.

"She typically plays LOTTO MAX and LOTTO 6/49, always making sure to add ENCORE," the OLG said in its news release. "For the October 4th draw, in addition to her usual Quick Pick, Christine decided to play a ticket with numbers of her choosing. It was this ticket that led to her first big win!"

Doyle said when she checked her ticket using the OLG app, she thought she'd won $24,000 when the "Big Winner" message came across the screen.

“I called out to my sister, and she checked my ticket again using her phone. It was then that she pointed out I had won more than $224,000! I screamed with delight and wondered if it was real,” Doyle laughed when retelling the story at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto when picking up her winnings.

She said although she was in disbelief, she was very excited and happy.

"I’d just bought a car the night before winning this prize, so I plan to pay it off. I’m also thrilled to share some of this win with my family and will save the rest for travel. I have some fun adventures ahead to enjoy," Doyle added.

The winning ticket was purchased at Dairy Mart on Broadway Street in Wyoming.
