Sting lose in overtime against Flint

Sarnia fought hard but were unable to beat the Flint Firebirds on Saturday.

The Sting would end up losing 3-2 in overtime.

Beckham Edwards opened the scoring for the Sting with his 3rd of the year. Casey Bridgewater and Hughston Hunt got assists on the play. Edwards has scored in three of his first four OHL games.

Around five minutes into the second period, the Firebirds ended up tying the game. Christopher Thibodeau scored his 1st goal with the team after coming over from the Kingston Frontenacs.

Thibodeau would add an assist a few minutes later as Jimmy Lombardi was able to get his 1st of the year shorthanded on a breakaway.

Edwards would get his first two-goal game with just over five minutes left in the third period. Zach Filak with the only helper.

The game would go to overtime where Flint’s Kaden Pitre would win it with his 2nd of the year.

The Sting's goaltender Nick Surzycia would end the game with 25 saves on 28 shots.

With the loss, Sarnia sits at a record of 1-1-1-1, while Flint moves to 3-1-0-0.

The Sting’s next game is on Sunday, Oct.6, at home against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
