Sting beat Sault. Ste Marie for second win of season

Sarnia is back in the win column after losing their previous three games.

The Sting took on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at home Sunday, winning 2-1.

Goaltender Evan Maillet made 19 stops to earn his first OHL win in just his second game.

"It's definitely an unreal experience you know coming out of that tunnel and seeing all of those Sarnia Sting fans, really gets you fired up for the game and also really helps you settle in," said Maillet. "Definitely a little bit shaky to start off I think. I think I definitely want that first goal back, but there was a little problem with my glove. Stuff happens, it won't happen again for sure."

Travis Hayes opened the scoring for the Greyhounds in the first period with his 2nd of the season.

The Sting were able to tie the game early in the second period when Tyson Doucette potted his 3rd goal of the year.

Sting defenceman Nathan Omeri got his 1st of the season just over a minute into the third period.

With the win, Sarnia’s record improves to 2-1-1-1, while Sault Ste. Marie moves to 1-4-0-0.

The Sting’s next game is on Wednesday, October 9 at home against the Brantford Bulldogs.

You can catch the action live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM).
