Pumpkins hurled at transports from highway overpass

Three transports were damaged by flying pumpkins on area highways.

Middlesex OPP said at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the eastbound Highway 401 near Old Victoria Road.

Police were told a pumpkin struck a transport truck's windshield causing extensive damage.

Just over 30 minutes later, OPP were called to the eastbound Highway 402 near White Oak Road for two more reports of transports being struck by the large fruits.

No injuries were reported, and police said in each incident the driver was able to safely pullover the vehicle.

It's believed one or more suspects tossed the pumpkins over nearby overpasses into oncoming traffic.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
