A Sarnia man was arrested in a variety store theft.

Sarnia police said at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, an erratic man entered a variety store on Indian road and was behaving in a threatening manner, causing staff to lock themselves in an office.

It's alleged the male suspect jumped over the counter and made off with some alcohol and other items.

Responding officers located the suspect a short distance away and the 35-year-old was arrested without incident.

He's charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation and was being held pending a bail hearing.
