Petrolia IODE organizes haunting tour

The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE) Margaret Stokes Chapter in Petrolia is inviting residents to learn more about historic and paranormal sites in the community, ahead of Halloween.

The Hauntings and Historical Tour will be held on Friday and Saturday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Chapter President Dawn McNally said this is the first time the organization is hosting the event.

"This year is the IODE Margaret Stokes Chapter's 75th anniversary and we wanted to do something different," she said. "We had a brainstorming meeting and we just came up with this idea and thought there are so many homes that have these paranormal happenings in them and we just thought we'd put them all together and see what we could come up with."

The self-guided tour will feature six locations.

McNally said the stops include the Corey Room at Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital, homes, and a business from the late 1800s.

"A couple of them are historical and a lot of them have spirit stories associated with them, where they've either had sightings, feelings, or animals reacting differently than normal," McNally said. "Then we have a hospitality centre at Christ Church Anglican where they're serving hot apple cider and cookies, and they have entertainment there as well."

Tickets are $20 each (cash) and will be available until 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 24 at the following locations: Hogan Pharmacy, Petrolia Home Hardware, Windover Nurseries, Leisure Lane, Sitek & Company, Petrolia's municipal office, and Olde Post Office Shoppe.

McNally said tickets can also be purchased on Friday and Saturday at Christ Church Anglican.

The IODE Margaret Stokes Chapter - Petrolia is a women's non-profit organization that supports various initiatives that benefit youth, veterans, and people in need. McNally said the group also supports outreach programs in other communities.
