Hundreds of candles will be placed at the Sarnia Legion Cenotaph Sunday night in tribute to Canada's war veterans
The tradition started during the Afghanistan war.
Branch 62 First Vice President Les Jones said residents can purchase a solar candle for $5.
"You can attend the legion and pick up a candle," he said. "There's a message placed on it to a family member that may have served, to one of the folks we lost in Afghanistan, any message about a veteran."
Jones said the local cadet corps will keep a close eye on the candles overnight.
"We meet at 7 p.m. at city hall then we walk down to the legion to our cenotaph and we have a ceremony there," said Jones. "Then everybody is invited in afterwards for some refreshment and comradeship inside the legion."
Remembrance Day services in Sarnia on Monday will begin with the parade downtown at 10:30 a.m.
The procession will move south along Front Street, east on George Street then south on Christina Street to Wellington Street ending at the Veterans Park cenotaph.
"Sarnia is very generous during our poppy campaign and our parade is very well attended," said Jones. "We're always amazed at how many people we have show up on the 11th."
Remembrance Day services were held in Point Edward and Camlachie on Sunday, November 3.
At Aamjiwnaang First Nation, residents gathered for a ceremony on Friday, November 8.
