UPDATE: Hydro pole damaged in hit and run

Charges have been laid following a hit and run crash that took out a hydro pole early Tuesday morning.

Sarnia police said the collision happened at 1:40 a.m. on Lakeshore Road at McMillen Parkway East.

Responding officers found a bumper with the attached licence plate at the scene.

"Sarnia police attended the home of the registered owner and located the vehicle in the driveway," read a media release. "The vehicle had obvious damage consistent with the earlier collision."

Police said a 29-year-old Sarnia man was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failure to remain and careless driving.

No injuries were reported.

Police said Lakeshore Road between Colborne Road and Indian Road was closed for the investigation. The area was expected to reopen to traffic by 12 p.m.

The collision resulted in a small outage affecting approximately 10 houses but Bluewater Power crews were able to fully restore power by 10:15 a.m.
