Fire on Rokeby Line sends one to hospital

One person was taken to hospital after a structure fire was reported in the Mooretown area on Monday.

St. Clair Township Fire Chief Richard Boyes said three stations responded (Corunna, Courtright, and Brigden) to a split-level house on Rokeby Line, near St. Clair Parkway, at around 12 p.m.

Boyes said the fire started in the basement and extended into an upstairs bedroom.

While one occupant was taken to hospital, further details were not available.

The blaze is under investigation. Boyes said a potential cause may be linked to "homeowner renovations."

Due to the nature of the call, Boyes said the Ontario Fire Marshal's office would not need to attend the scene.

"There's extensive damage to the house but I don't have a dollar value attached to it at this time," he said.

Boyes said the firefighters called on Monday did a good job of limiting the extent of the blaze.

Rokeby Line was temporarily closed between St. Clair Parkway and Highway 40. St. Clair Fire cleared the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m.
