OPP investigate 'offensive' graffiti in Petrolia

Lambton OPP is investigating after "offensive" graffiti was spray painted on a house and vehicle in Petrolia over the weekend.

Officers were called to a Catherine Street address on Sunday about a report of mischief.

Police said the incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on November 23 and 7:45 a.m. on November 24.

The graffiti has since been removed.

Lambton OPP was unable to provide additional details about the graffiti as the investigation is ongoing.

"The investigation is still in its early stages and [police] continue to gather evidence to determine the intent and any potential motivation behind the act," said Cst. Jeanine Robertson in an emailed statement. "Criminal acts will not be tolerated and anyone who engages in vandalism may face a criminal charge."

Police are asking those who live in the area to check their video surveillance footage for any suspicious activity or possible suspects.
