MDOT raises BWB toll rates for first time in 14 years

Starting December 1, it will cost you a little bit more to cross the Blue Water Bridge (BWB) into Canada.

For the first time in 14 years, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has adjusted its rates.

Based off public feedback, the price will increase by $1 effective Dec. 1, 2024, with a second $1 increase effective Dec. 1, 2025.

MDOT said the hike will help offset increased maintenance and operations costs, in addition to construction improvements for the Blue Water Bridge plaza.

Cars will be paying $4 (USD), and $4 (USD) for each extra axle. Trucks and buses will be paying $4.25 (USD) per axle, and those with an EDGE Pass get a 50 cent discount per crossing.

As of October 1, 2024, the Federal Bridge Corporation said U.S. bound passenger vehicles were paying $4.50 (USD) to cross and $6 (CAN) if paying cash/debit/credit.

The rate for commercial vehicles per axle is $4.50 (USD) per trip and $6 (CAD) for those paying with Canadian currency.
