Christmas on the Farm celebrates 50 years

The Seaway Kiwanis Children's Animal Farm at Canatara Park will be transformed into a Christmas Village this weekend.

It's the 50th annual Christmas on the Farm.

Highlights include train rides, craft making, story time with Mrs. Claus and horse and carriage rides. Santa himself has a scheduled appearance on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Community Services Coordinator Sean Hanlon said there will also be traditional holiday activities to celebrate the milestone.

"We've heard a lot of positive things about the roasted chestnuts, so we're going to bring that back, so if you're in the area and you've never had a roasted chestnut we would love for you to stop by and try one," he said.

Hanlon said the community response has been great.

"It's great for connecting community members and activities for our children to get out and to celebrate the holiday season," he said.

For the event the city typically see's between 2,500 to 5,000 people.

"These holiday events seem really important to the community, so we want to offer the best event that we can," he said.

There will also be a sugar holiday cookie giveaway for the children.

“This is a holiday tradition we always look forward to, it is always fun to welcome the public to Canatara Park decorated for the holidays, for a variety of Christmas festivities,” said Krissy Glavin, Parks and Recreation Manager.

Christmas on the Farm is from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Shuttle service through Sarnia Transit will be available leaving every half hour from Northgate Plaza.

Motorists are also advised the Park Service Road will be closed west of Lake Chipican Drive from 3 p.m. on Friday until 2 p.m. Saturday.

Further details are available on the City of Sarnia's website.
