There's a renewed call to action for this year's Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign.
Director of Development and Communications Ryan Doyle said with just two weeks left to go in the annual initiative, there are some concerns about whether or not they'll reach the $1.487 million target.
"We feel like we're behind right now," said Doyle. "So we're looking at our year-over-year figures and we're saying this is the time to start being like, ok, we need to start being creative about how we're going to get to the campaign goal."
He said so far they've raised $1,070,000 or 72 per cent of the goal.
"Seeing some early numbers and it's getting a little touch and go," said Doyle. "We are seeing where some of the employee campaigns have declined, we've seen a lot of the retiree campaigns and annuitant campaigns kind of increase, which is kind of an interesting trend that we're keeping an eye on."
Doyle said the postal strike is also impacting the campaign, resulting in fewer mail in donations.
"Anybody who is a United Way supporter but hasn't made a donation this year, we have seen a bit of fall off with our regular annual year-over-year donors, and we really do count on their support," he said. "The programs that we fund can't be funded unless we achieve our goal. So, if someone is looking to donate, someone who has been a donor in the past, please reach out and make a donation."
A total of 17 local agencies receive funding from the United Way including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lambton Elderly Outreach, and Sarnia-Lambton Rebound.
