Sting boost defence with signing of BCHL blueliner

The Sarnia Sting are bolstering their blueline with the addition of a 19-year-old defenceman.

The OHL club has announced the signing of Jack O’Brien to a scholarship and development agreement.

He spent last season in the USHS Prep School Program playing for The Hill School. In 33 games he notched four goals and 16 assists for 20 points.

So far this season, the 6' 2'' blueliner has suited up in 21 games for the Cranbrook Bucks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he has a goal and six assists.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca believes O'Brien can solidify the team's backend.

"He’s a competitor, takes pride in defending, moves well, has elite character and habits," said Seca. "The new rules opened up an opportunity to sign this free agent player from the BCHL and we believe he can become a valuable member of our program."

O'Brien is set to make his Sting debut on Thursday night as the team heads to Peterborough to face the Petes.

You can hear every Sting game live on CHOK (103.9FM/ 1070AM).
