Charge laid in fatal downtown Sarnia crash

Sarnia police have charged the driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal crash with a pedestrian in the city's downtown.

A 69-year-old man was struck by a vehicle shortly after 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9 near the intersection of Christina Street North and George Street.

He was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, and died several days later.

As a result of the police investigation, 47-year-old John O’Donnell of Plympton-Wyoming has been charged with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act.

O’Donnell is scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charge.

Police said this tragic incident underscores the critical importance of road safety and its shared responsibility.

All road users, both drivers and pedestrians, are being urged to exercise caution, particularly at high-risk areas such as intersections where pedestrian and vehicle interactions are frequent.
