After 14 years, Mary-Lynne McCallum is stepping down from Enniskillen Township Council.
The veteran councillor officially handed in her resignation on December 9.
McCallum told Sarnia News Today that she's been thinking about leaving for a while now.
"It's just poor communication around our municipality right now," said McCallum. "So I feel like I'm not getting all the information I need to make an informed decision. And that's not new, I just don't have the patience for it any longer."
McCallum said despite her frustrations, it wasn't an easy decision to make.
"I've been teetering for a while, and really there's two more years left in the term but I've just kind of have had enough of the decision making," said McCallum. "I'm going to miss the people, and talking about the drains and all kinds of interesting things, but I just can't continue."
She said she is not considering a return to municipal politics in the future.
The township has 60 days to fill the seat once it is officially declared vacant.
"There hasn't been a race here in eight years, we've been acclaimed," said McCallum. "So either we've done a good job, or there's just no interest in the community, I don't know. I'm hoping we did a good job. But, they can have a byelection, or they can just ask for applications or they can appoint someone."
Her last day on council is December 31, 2024.
