A 38-year-old man is charged after allegedly attacking someone inside a Sarnia church.
At around 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, a 23-year-old man was reportedly praying inside a church on Christina Street and London Road when someone put a ligature around his neck to strangle them.
He was able to break free and call for help.
Police arrived shortly after and discovered the suspect had tried to remove the security camera before fleeing.
They eventually were able to identify him and shared his information to neighbouring police agencies.
Just before midnight, the man turned himself in at the Point Edward OPP detachment.
He has since been charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, and uttering threats.
Police said they don’t know his exact motive but explained he had used illegal substances beforehand which may have played a part.
