Pathways' Pickleball tournament kicks off 50th anniversary fundraising efforts

Pathways Health Centre for Children has partnered with Lambton College to host its first ever pickleball tournament.

The charity fundraiser is the first in a series of events and celebrations through 2025, to commemorate Pathways' 50th anniversary in Sarnia.

It's scheduled for Saturday, January 25 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Lambton College, and features competitive and recreational women's, men's and mixed divisions.

Donor Relations and Special Events Lead Marcy Draker said they're looking to capitalize on pickleball's growing popularity.

"Lambton College has been wonderful to be very generous and kind with us in allowing us space and generous donations for our Pickleball for Pathways tournament," said Draker. "

Draker said money raised stays right here in Sarnia-Lambton.

"If we're able to raise $1,000 or $2,000 through this tournament, we'd be most pleased with that," she said. "However, the name of the game truly is raising awareness about Pathways and what we do in the community, as well as having fun with the community. We service over 5,000 children per year here at Pathways Health Centre for Children. Those children have physical, developmental, and communication needs. It just fills our cup to be a part of this team."

In February, Pathways will be holding the Give the Kids a Lift-Bench Press Contest in partnership with Ironworks.

Events this summer include Cruise in the Park and the Sarnia Sting Golf Tournament.

Registration for the pickleball tournament closes on Wednesday.
