Several Peavey Marts are closing across Ontario.
The retail company announced on Tuesday it plans to shut down 21 locations by the end of April. This includes stores in Chatham, Sarnia, Goderich, Collingwood, and Mount Forest.
The only Peavey Mart store in Nova Scotia is also closing.
“The Canadian retail environment has faced significant disruption over recent years, and Peavey has not been immune to these challenges,” said Doug Anderson, President & CEO of Peavey Industries LP.
Peavey Industries, which owns the agricultural supply stores, explained it’s doing this to position itself for future sustainability.
“While these closures are a necessary step, we remain committed to make every effort of returning to the value-driven, reliable service our customers have come to expect over the past six decades,” added Jest Sidloski, VP Customer Experience.
The company did not specify how many jobs would be lost.
The complete list of closures includes stores in Arnprior, Bedford, Bowmanville, Brockville, Chatham, Collingwood, Cornwall, Goderich, Grimsby, Kingston, Kitchener, Lambeth, Mount Forest, New Liskeard, Sarnia, Smiths Falls, St. Catharines, St. Jacobs, St. Thomas, Sudbury, Woodstock, and Uxbridge. This comes after Peavey Industries announced the closures of its Rockland and Hyde Park locations.
