Wiersma to serve third term as police board chair

Paul Wiersma has been elected to serve another term as chair of the Sarnia Police Service Board.

Wiersma was re-elected during Thursday's board meeting.

"This is an exciting time for the Sarnia Police Service as it continues to modernize and implement the relatively new community safety and policing act," said Wiersma. "And in 2025, we look forward to challenges and opportunities."

Wiersma said a highlight of the upcoming year is expected to be working toward the development of a new Sarnia Police Headquarters.

"We look forward to working with the city on a site selection process for the new police facility and to engaging with an architect on the design for a new facility," he said.

The 2025 Sarnia Police Service budget allocated $500,000 for a contingent fund toward the development of a new police facility.

Wiersma was first elected chair in February 2023.

Kelly Ash was re-elected as vice chair during Thursday's meeting.
