Grand Bend Legion now aims for spring completion

Repairs at the Grand Bend Legion, following a fire last year, are taking a little longer than initially expected.

A section of the Municipal Drive building partially reopened to the public in August 2024, after a fire in July 2024 caused approximately $500,000 worth of damage.

The facility was expected to be fully operational around the new year, but Royal Canadian Legion Branch 498 President John O'Handley said the building's entire upstairs area will not be ready until the spring.

After obtaining the building permit and insurance approval, O'Handley said work on the upstairs area began on Monday, January 27.

BELFOR Property Restoration was hired for the project.

"Now, everything is all in place. The contractor's very efficient, very fast, and they do a great job," he said.

O'Handley said two downstairs bathrooms still need to be redone, however, those should be completed in February.
