CANstruction to take you around the world

You can travel the world next time you visit Lambton Mall.

The theme for the 12th annual CANstruction in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd is 'Landmarks'.

Executive Director Myles Vanni said there are nine teams participating this year.

"You don't need to go travelling anywhere, go to Lambton Mall this weekend and you'll travel the world," said Vanni. "We've got teams that are building the pyramids, Big Ben, Niagara Falls and our very own Blue Water Bridge, so there's lots of creativity going on."

He said they're hoping to collect over 50,000 pounds of food to restock their shelves.

"We've gotten through Christmas and Christmas is always a good opportunity for people to donate and we get lots of food but it slows down through the winter, so this will be a boost that will help us get through the spring and into the summer," said Vanni.

Last year the event collected over 56,000 pounds of food for the food bank as well as $20,000.

Displays will be put together Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. and judging is scheduled for Sunday morning with awards handed out at 1 p.m. in the food court.

Vanni said the public will have a chance to pick their favourite.

"There's one award we hold off, and that's the People's Choice award," he said. "We want to hear from the people what their favourite structure is. So you can go to the mall or check out the structures online and by making a monetary donation at that team's box or on their QR code, the team that raises the most funds in support of the food bank will be our People's Choice winners."

Voting for the People's Choice award will continue until March 18.

Vanni said kids can get in on the fun too with the Inn's mascot.

"We are doing Find tINNy all week during March Break (March 10th-14th). So parents if you're pulling your hair out with the kids at home during the break, take them down to the mall. There will be three little mini tINNy's hidden amongst the structures. If you find tINNy and fill out a ballot with its location, you get a chance to win one of three toy baskets."
