After rainy weather conditions pass, southwestern Ontario could be hit with another blast of winter weather, beginning Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon.
Environment Canada issued a winter weather travel advisory on Wednesday for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Windsor and Essex County, and London and Middlesex County.
The national weather agency said icy and slippery conditions are expected to begin around midnight as temperatures rapidly fall below the freezing mark.
Some areas may get two to four centimetres of snowfall, as well as gusty west/northwest winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour.
"Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather," read a weather statement. "Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery."
In the meantime, a special weather statement, issued because of significant rainfall, remains in effect.
West Region OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk took to social media Wednesday morning, advising commuters to drive according to changing weather conditions and to avoid pooling water on roadways.
"If you do see pooling water on the roadways, it's not an opportunity to drive through that puddle of water to see what type of splashing you get. You're not only putting yourself at risk of hydroplaning, you're putting other innocent motorists at risk," he said. "If you are heading out tomorrow for work, please make sure you plan ahead. Make sure you get up -- maybe about an hour early, get ready for that commute because I think the roadways are not going to be as friendly as today."
