The competitive season is now over for a local robotics team but they're looking ahead to make improvements for next year.
Mastermind Youth Foundation's robotics team, Mixed Métal, attended the provincial championships in early April.
The team's goal was to be selected to represent Canada at the World Championship, scheduled for April 16 to April 19 in Houston, Texas.
However, Foundation Director Sachin Parmar said the opportunity went to another rookie team from the Toronto area.
"The season was very successful overall, the team learned a lot and did quite well at the competitions, capturing a Rookie All-Star Award. The team has also laid the groundwork for a sustainable high school level robotics program in Sarnia," said Parmar. "Although our competitive season is over, the team is already working on improvements for next year, including new technologies to develop and implement, and educational courses to enhance the team's skills to be ready for next season."
Mixed Métal included 15 high school and elementary school students this year.
The next FIRST Robotics Competition season is expected to begin in early January.
"We are always accepting applications from students who are looking to join the team, even in the offseason," said Parmar in an emailed statement. "The team would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our partners and sponsors, without whom none of these opportunities would be possible."
Parmar said the foundation's robotics summer camp, Camp RoboLeague, will continue this year.
