This winter's colder temperatures have proven to be a positive for local maple syrup producers.
The liquid gold will be on display this weekend as the A.W. Campbell Conservation Area celebrates its annual Maple Syrup Festival.
The event, held in partnership between the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) and Alvinston Fire Association, will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Horse-drawn wagon rides are planned from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Hands-on displays will be available for visitors to experience the pioneer sugar bush lifestyle, and to demonstrate the importance of the liquid gold in the lives of First Nations people and early settlers.
You may also have the chance to tap a tree and taste the sap right from the source.
Those attending are asked to park at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Centre Complex and the shuttle will bring you to the festival.
They're minimizing vehicles in the park at this time.
The price is $5 per person (cash only), but those five and under are free.
Alvinston Firefighters will be hosting their annual pancake breakfast at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Centre Complex as well from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
The A.W. Campbell Conservation Area is located at 8477 Shiloh Line in Brooke-Alvinston.
