Man charged in violent theft

A 24-year-old man faces drug related charges in a theft at an Exmouth Street business Thursday.

Police were called to the area of Exmouth Street and Colborne Road at 8:10 p.m. about a man allegedly entering into the staff room and stealing from staff member's bags.

He allegedly attempted to punch security staff in the face when confronted. Police said the staff member stepped back to avoid being hit.

Police said the man then moved to the front of the store where he began punching windows while threatening security.

When police arrived, the man was located in the parking lot. When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, police said he immediately resisted, but was taken to the ground.

A bag of Benzodiazepines was allegedly found during a search of the suspect as well as a scale, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit currency, a knife and shotgun shells.

Officers learned at the time of the arrest he was out on bail with conditions not to possess any weapons.

He was charged with robbery with violence, uttering threats, failure to comply with release order, resist peace officer, escape lawful custody, careless storage of ammunition, possessing counterfeit money, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The suspect was remanded into custody following his bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
