Answers sought in decades old death investigation

The family of Karen Lee Ann Caughlin is still searching for answers over 50 years after her death.

On the morning of March 16, 1974 the body of 14-year-old Karen Caughlin was found in a ditch just west of Petrolia near the side of Plowing Match Road, between Churchill Line and Lasalle Line.

Police said the Sarnia teen had been at the "Rose Garden Roller Rink" in Point Edward with friends before being dropped off at a girlfriend's house on Brock Street after midnight. She never made it inside the home.

In 2017, police said new information in the case had revealed that her injuries were consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.

Police said it was a purple, 1970-71 Chrysler high performance vehicle.

It's believed her body was moved from where she was hit to where it was eventually discovered.

There is a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Caughlin's death.

Anyone with information is urged to call Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at 1-888-310-1122 or *OPP (677) on your mobile phone, or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
