A community-based robotics team from Sarnia is heading to Windsor to compete at the FIRST Robotics Competition district event in hopes of securing a spot to participate in the provincial championship.
The Windsor-Essex Great Lakes Event will be held at the University of Windsor, at the St. Denis Centre on College Avenue, from March 27 until March 29.
Twenty-nine teams registered for the competition, including teams from LaSalle, Chatham, London, and Toronto.
Sarnia's Mastermind Youth Foundation's robotics team, Mixed Métal, involves 15 high school and elementary school students.
Foundation Director Sachin Parmar said while the team hopes to compete at the provincial championship in April, they will be going regardless.
Mixed Métal received the Rookie All-Star Award at the University of Waterloo District event last weekend, which allows them to present their case at the provincial championship to represent Ontario and Canada at the World Championship in Houston, Texas.
Parmar said their interview will be on April 3, but the provincial championship itself will be held in Mississauga from April 2 to April 5.
The World Championship will be held from April 16 to April 19.
