The Lambton College Foundation is hoping to alleviate some financial stress for current students through a series of 50/50 draws.
The first ever Funding Futures Lottery launched in February and the deadline to purchase tickets will be at 11:59 p.m. on April 6.
Foundation and Alumni Association Manager Krystyna Kahnert said it's the first of four 50/50 draws scheduled to take place this year.
Additional draws will be held in May, August, and October.
"We thought that by tapping into the popularity of the lottery-style fundraiser, we hoped it would bring together people from the community to support this cause," Kahnert said.
The goal is to raise money for student scholarships.
"The cost of post-secondary education is expensive for students, and sometimes it's students paying their own way," she said. "Something like this, breaking down some financial barriers, helping them with payment for school or textbooks... really does help them and support them in their journey."
Kahnert said since Lambton College aims to train students for the local workforce, supporting education does benefit the community as well.
"We have students who go on to become, for example, nurses, who are caring for your loved ones in times of need, or we have our tradespeople who keep our community running, or business leaders who are driving growth in the community," she said.
Raffle tickets can be purchased online. The cost ranges from $10 for one ticket to $100 for 25 tickets.
The first draw will be held on April 7 at 1 p.m.
Winners will be announced online. Kahnert said they're planning to build upon their webpage to provide details about the raffle and winners.
Kahnert said they'll likely review the lottery at the end of the year.
If it's successful, the foundation may consider expanding scholarship opportunities to those entering Lambton College as part of a recruitment strategy.
