Ramadan Food Drive helps three local organizations

The Sarnia Muslim Association is celebrating the success of its Ramadan Food Drive.

Close to 50 volunteers canvassed 800 homes to collect donations.

Donations were also gathered at the local mosque and by staff at Bluewater Health's Emergency Department and Math Plus Tutors Learning Centre.

In total, 3000 pounds of food was collected.

The donations were delivered to the Inn of the Good Shepherd and the Women's Interval Home.

They were also delivered to River City Vineyard, to help the organization reopen its food bank which had temporarily closed.

Ramadan is a special time for Muslims.

It's the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, where Muslims fast during daylight hours, pray, and do kind and helpful things for others, especially those in need.

The Sarnia Muslim Association also collected monetary donations during Ramadan and presented Islamic Relief Canada with over $89,000 for Gaza and Sudan relief.
