Firefighters rescue occupant from Point Edward blaze

One occupant was rescued by firefighters and two people were taken to Bluewater Health with minor injuries following an overnight fire in Point Edward.

Point Edward Fire and Rescue volunteers were called to a home on Michigan Avenue, between Albert and Alfred Streets, at around 2:15 a.m. on Thursday.

Emergency Management Coordinator Claudio Palleschi told Sarnia News Today flames were coming from a second story bedroom window when they arrived.

"Crews began an aggressive interior attack and quickly extinguished the fire," Palleschi said. "While this was happening, a second crew entered the home and rescued a female occupant from the first floor of the home. The female occupant as well as another occupant of the home were transported to hospital by Lambton EMS with minor injuries."

Palleschi said no other injuries were reported.

Crews remained on scene Thursday morning as the investigation continued.

A cause and damage estimate had yet to be determined.
