Baby in critical condition following alleged assault, father charged

A two-month old baby is in critical condition after they were allegedly assaulted by their father.

The baby was transferred to the London Health Sciences Centre- Children's Hospital from Sarnia and placed on life support with critical injuries.

Police said they were contacted after the nature of injuries appeared consistent with a violent criminal act.

A 27-year-old man, the father, was charged with aggravated assault and was held for bail.

Police said aggravated assault is the most severe form of assault in the Criminal Code and encompasses things like disfiguring, wounding or endangering life.

The two-month old remains in critical condition.

The man's name will not be released to protect the identity of the child and family members who may not be involved.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
