Rebound hosts fundraiser with Rick Mercer

Canadian Comedian and Author Rick Mercer will be the guest of honour during an upcoming fundraising event in support of Sarnia-Lambton Rebound.

A dinner, keynote address, and question-and-answer period will be held with Mercer at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Point Edward on June 19.

Fund Development Coordinator Beverley Horodyski said Rebound is "thrilled" to have Mercer attend the event.

"He really celebrates everything about Canada that's great," she said. "He just seems to know how to discuss things that matter to regular Canadians and what makes them laugh about being Canadian, but in a very sincere way."

Funds raised will support youth programming, including Rebound's flagship program, Life Choices.

"That's a program that started way back in 1984 and it's a 10 week social skills program offered to youth in our community. Overall, we have 21 different programs at Rebound that support youth so it's important for us to raise funds to keep those programs operating," Horodyski said. "Funding has decreased in some areas so that's why we're working hard at fundraising."

Horodyski said there are sponsorship opportunities leading up to the event. Interested businesses are asked to contact Rebound by May 9 at 519-344-2841.

Tickets to attend "Talking to Canadians - An Evening with Rick Mercer" will go on sale on May 12 through Eventbrite, priced at $200 per person.

A link to purchase tickets will be posted to Rebound's social media channels.

The doors at Four Points by Sheraton will open at 6 p.m. for the event.
