Sarnia compost site temporarily extends hours

The Sarnia Compost Site has extended its hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month of May as local residents begin gardening this spring.

The site, at 379 St. Andrew St., will be open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from May 6 until May 31.

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the site will continue to operate from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

"We understand 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. doesn’t suit everyone’s needs, so the extended hours are a way for us to ensure all our residents can take advantage of the site’s materials and services,” said Environmental Service Manager Joe Boothe.

Last year, the site processed 6,804 tonnes of compost and brush and distributed 5,247 tonnes of materials.

The compost site will be closed on Saturdays but residents can drop off yard waste and brush at Transco Waste and Recycling, located at 387 McGregor Side Rd. S.

The option to drop off yard waste a brush is free for Sarnia (including Bright's Grove) residents. Proof oof residency may be required.

Materials such as wood chips, mulch, and compost are available to purchase at the compost site (for both residents and non-residents).

Further details can be found on the city's website.
