Sarnia school prepares to close its doors

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board is preparing to say goodbye to the current Sacred Heart Catholic School before students and staff move to the new site in the fall.

An open house and school closing celebration will be held at Sacred Heart, 1411 Lecaron Ave., on Thursday, May 8 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Guests are asked to RSVP online.

School memorabilia will be on display and guests will have a final chance to walk the halls.

“The Sacred Heart 49ers are so excited to welcome our neighbours and friends for this special evening,” said Principal Tina Jarvis in a media release. “We encourage everyone to share their memories with us as we celebrate our school’s rich history and bright future!”

In the meantime, construction of the new Sacred Heart (former Gregory A. Hogan site) at 1825 Hogan Dr. is progressing well.

"The transformation has been nothing short of remarkable,” said Director of Education Lisa Demers. “Every beam and brick reflects our shared hope for the future — a future where students feel inspired, empowered, and rooted in faith."

The Sacred Heart project reached the halfway mark in February. The overall project is estimated to cost $6.5 million.
